Ghosts of July
I really thought I would be more creative and productive during the lockdown phase of the 2020 pandemic. Instead, the personal projects I was working on were moved to the backburner. Most of this past year has involved doing work for work. I'm not complaining, I've learned so much during this time and I've been able to use my creativity to solve different types of problems.
In February, I spun up a ghost instance for the first time. I'm not a programmer but I've always been fascinated with programming languages and the command line. As a kid I loved taking stuff apart, seeing how it worked, & trying to put it back together. The majority of the time I just broke things, but once in a while, I would learn something. Yes, most of the installation process was paint-by-numbers copying and pasting commands, but I was very proud of myself once I was able to log in to the backend and start typing. The only problem is that I didn't know what to write about.
I figured that the installation itself was an achievement and that I would at some point think of something to write. Well, it's been 5 months and here we are.
What's going on?
At some point the Vietnamese restaurant we frequent asked us to leave a review on a Facebook group. I'm not the biggest fan of Facebook, at least some parts of Facebook but I figured I'd check out the group. I ended up writing a small review about a ghost kitchen that serves Mochiko Hawaiian fried chicken. Writing about food is not something that had ever crossed my mind but I had fun doing it. I wrote another review for a Brazilian BBQ spot which had a good response. The reviews are short and efficient. It's been a great exercise in writing. I hope to write more.
We got a membership at a botanical garden. I don't know the names of any plants but I hope to learn a few. After a year of being inside, it's been great soaking in nature, even therapeutic at times. Nice gift shop too.
